The full-life tyre ecosystem

Every tyre has a next life.

We are building a visible, responsible journey from first fit to final form—keeping tyres useful for longer and recovering their value when that use ends.

One tyre. One visible journey. The safest, highest-value next use—without losing sight of where it goes.

We cover the fee.

$6.65 + GST standard passenger tyre

GripFit absorbs the applicable Tyrewise stewardship fee on passenger, SUV and light-truck tyres. The scheme remains funded; our customer keeps the saving.

From first fit to final form

A tyre should never simply disappear.

Every returned tyre is assessed, sorted and assigned the most responsible pathway available. Road safety comes first. Useful material stays useful. Final recovery is planned from the beginning.

01

The fee is accounted for

The regulated stewardship fee remains visible and properly accounted for, even when Tyre Shepherd absorbs the cost for our GripFit customer.

02

Every tyre is assessed

We sort by condition, safety and potential. No tyre returns to road use unless it is safe and legally compliant.

03

Damage is handled safely

Severely damaged tyres are isolated and booked for appropriate collection, reducing handling risk for our people and partners.

04

Useful tyres find useful work

Suitable tyres can support approved community, whenua, council, agricultural and practical land-based applications.

05

Long-term use stays visible

Placements are recorded, with unique identification and GPS tracking where appropriate so tyres can be found and recovered.

06

The material begins again

When no useful whole-tyre application remains, the goal becomes processing the rubber, steel and fibre into valuable new products.

The decision

Reuse first. Repurpose next. Recover fully.

We aim to preserve the highest safe value at every stage—not move a problem somewhere else and call it reuse.

Pathway 01

Safe continued use

If a tyre is genuinely safe, serviceable and compliant, we preserve its useful life.

Pathway 02

Purposeful repurposing

Suitable whole tyres can support approved playground, rural, land, training and community projects—with the recipient and recovery responsibility recorded.

Pathway 03

Material recovery

When the whole tyre has no safe next use, we work toward processing every recoverable component into a new material or product.

Chain of custody

Placed with purpose. Tracked with care.

A tyre used on a farm or land project should not become tomorrow's abandoned waste. We are developing a tyre record that follows suitable placements through their second life and brings them back when that use ends.

1Source, category and condition recorded
2Recipient, purpose and placement agreed
3Unique asset identification applied
4GPS tracking used where appropriate
5Recovery responsibility remains visible
6Final processing outcome documented
Research & development

From old tyre to useful product.

We are currently talking with recycling-equipment manufacturers and mould makers in China while exploring products designed for local needs and Aotearoa conditions. This is active R&D, and our claims will grow only as testing and real production outcomes support them.

Kaupapa #43

Kaitiakitanga

Care for what is placed in our hands—the customer, the resource and the whenua that will carry the results of our decisions.

For Tyre Shepherd, kaitiakitanga means taking responsibility beyond the sale: saving our GripFit customer money, caring for the tyre when it comes off the vehicle and keeping its next life visible.

Kaupapa #43 does not stand alone. It is one of 44 principles intended to be lived collectively—each carrying part of the future we are working toward.

Working within Tyrewise

The national system provides the foundation.

The regulated Tyrewise scheme supports collection, transport, processing and the development of sustainable uses for end-of-life tyres. Tyre Shepherd's role is to make that responsibility tangible at a local level.

  • The applicable stewardship fee remains properly accounted for
  • GripFit customers receive an equal Tyre Shepherd saving where eligible
  • Returned tyres are assessed before a pathway is chosen
  • Developing partnerships are described honestly—not presented as completed outcomes
  • Our long-term goal is evidence of where each tyre went and what it became
Help us build the loop

Good tyres. Good projects. Better outcomes.

We want to work with councils, farmers, whenua organisations, researchers, manufacturers, mould makers and community groups who can help create responsible next uses for tyres and recovered material.

Product pathways and tracking systems shown on this page include work currently in development.

STREAMLINE trade accounts are excluded from Full-Life Tyre Ecosystem inclusions. Tyre stewardship fees remain payable on STREAMLINE orders.
