The Shepherd view

A puncture repair is
not a five-minute favour.

It is a safety decision. The little nail you can see from the outside does not tell us what has happened inside the tyre—or whether driving while low has damaged it.

So GripFit does the unglamorous bit properly: tyre off, evidence found, condition checked, repair completed only when the tyre and injury allow it.

No rope plug and a hopeful wave goodbye.

The GripFit puncture ritual

Six moves.
One straight answer.

  1. 01

    Find the leak

We confirm where the air is escaping and check the obvious culprits.

  2. 02

    Tyre comes off

The wheel alone cannot tell the whole story. We remove the tyre for inspection.

  3. 03

    Inspect inside + out

We assess the injury, inner liner, sidewall, shoulder and overall tyre condition.

  4. 04

    Repair or replace

You get the honest verdict before we proceed—based on the tyre, damage and applicable standard.

  5. 05

    Repair properly

If suitable, an approved internal repair is installed using the correct preparation and materials.

  6. 06

    Refit + check

We refit, inflate and leak-check before the wheel heads back to the vehicle.

Repairability

Can we save it?

Sometimes. The only useful answer comes after inspection.

Often repairable

Clean tread-area injuries

  • Damage is within a permitted repair area
  • Injury size and angle are suitable
  • Inner liner and structure remain sound
  • Tyre condition and previous repairs allow it

Usually replacement territory

Shoulder, sidewall or hidden damage

  • Sidewall or shoulder injury
  • Damage from driving flat or under-inflated
  • Large, irregular or unsafe injury
  • Tyre condition or previous repairs rule it out

Important: these are useful indicators, not a diagnosis. Final repairability depends on the tyre after removal, the damage found and the applicable approved repair standard.

The no-wasted-money bit

If it can’t be repaired,
your $60 isn’t lost.

If inspection shows the tyre is not safely repairable, the full $60 becomes TyreShepherd Shop credit toward a replacement tyre.

That means the assessment still moves you forward.

Before you roll in

Good questions.

Can you promise my tyre is repairable?

No. A proper decision needs the tyre removed and inspected. Location, injury size, internal condition, previous repairs and overall tyre condition all matter.

Why not just use a string plug?

NZTA describes string-repair kits and sealants as temporary measures to get home or reach a repair service. We assess the tyre for a suitable permanent repair.

What if I drove on it flat?

Please tell us. Driving under-inflated can cause internal damage that may not be visible from outside and may make replacement necessary.

What happens if it needs replacing?

We explain why, show you suitable options and apply your $60 assessment charge as TyreShepherd Shop credit toward the replacement tyre.
